Our Vision

FWI's Vision is to connect African villages with Friendship- Respect- Education & Empowerment, towards poverty relief.
We do this by running programs, events and providing individual support for young people and their communities.
FWI runs many school-based programs that aim to equip young people with knowledge and skills to reach their goals, and to share this knowledge with others.
The story of FWI
Freedom Write Inc. (FWI) began in 2011 in Orongo Village, Kenya with a mission to connect young people and their communities with friendship, respect, education and empowerment. This remains our vision today.
FWI's programs are sustainable and education-based, enabling us to deliver support across communities with minimal cost and broad impact.
The name 'Freedom Write" came from the impact of our vey first program that connected Kenyan and Australian students through letter writing. These hand-written letters created the freedom for young people in Kenya to build open, accepting, encouraging, culturally diverse friendships; and the freedom to share and learn about topics that may have otherwise been difficult to talk about.
